United Kingdom Awards

United Kingdom

Applicants to the United Kingdom can apply for one of two award types. Below is a brief explanation of each type. For full details on each award, select the award from the drop-down menu below.

    • Open Award: Candidates may pursue independent post-BA-level research, or undertake a graduate degree program at any accredited academic institution in an arts-related discipline. Applicants should only select an Open Award if:
      • They are proposing an independent research project.
      • They are undertaking a graduate degree program in an art-related discipline and their proposed institutional affiliation is not one of the Partnership Institutions below; or if their arts-related degree proposal is not eligible for consideration under the parameters of one of the Partnership Awards listed below (for example the Partnership Award may only be for PhD candidates and/or within a specific discipline, etc.).
      • Please note that funding for our Open Award is extremely limited. Candidates are strongly advised to apply for our partnership awards which mostly cover all disciplines at top UK universities.
      • Applicants currently enrolled in a distance-based learning program and are interested in conducting research are eligible for the Open Awards.
    • UK Partnership Awards: Candidates may undertake a graduate degree at the institutions listed in the UK Partnership Award category, as long as their proposal falls within the parameters of the award. Please review the table and award description for more information on each award.
    • Candidates will complete two applications, the Fulbright application and the university’s application (according to the university’s admissions procedures) and are not required to submit an affiliation letter with the Fulbright application unless otherwise specified in the award description. The finalists selected for the UK partnership awards will receive a conditional offer. Grantees are offered a Fulbright award on the condition that they gain admission to the specified degree program. Applicants are ineligible for the 2026-2027 awards if they are residing or studying in the UK during the 2025-2026 academic year unless the applicant is in the UK for an undergraduate study abroad program.
    • Awards are for the first year of graduate degree study in the UK unless otherwise specified in the award description.
    • All Postgraduate Awards to the UK:
      • Applicants are ineligible for the 2027-2028 awards if they are residing or studying in the UK during the 2026-2027 academic year unless the applicant is in the UK for an undergraduate study abroad program.
      • Part time and distance learning masters/ research degree courses are ineligible for the Fulbright US Postgraduate awards to the United Kingdom.
