The University of Strathclyde was established more than 200 years ago, and has a student population of over 30,000 from over 140 countries. The University was the first university to be awarded the UK University of the Year award by Times Higher Education (THE) twice– in 2012 and 2019. The University has also been recognised as Scottish University of the Year 2020 by The Sunday Times Good University Guide and was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize, the highest national honour awarded to the sector. Most recently, Strathclyde has been awarded the Scottish University of the Year 2024 (Daily Mail University Awards) and the Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2023 (Triple E Awards).

Faculties:
- Strathclyde is home to Scotland’s largest Engineering Faculty and its impressive multimillion-pound investments in engineering facilities gives students access to state-of-the-art equipment and work space in which to study.
- Strathclyde Business School is the first business school in Scotland to achieve triple accreditation from the three main business school accreditation bodies – AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS (since 2004). It is featured in the top 95 European Business Schools (Financial Times, 2022, and is the first business school in Scotland to be awarded the Small Business Charter Award.
- The faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a wide range of courses that are recognised professionally. The faculty has strong links with government, global organisations, in both the public and private sector, and academic networks.
The University is located in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city which was voted World’s Friendliest City and 4th Best City in the World by Time Out Index 2022. It is rich in culture and provides students with access to world-class architecture and attractions, a diverse culinary scene, vibrant nightlife and outstanding shopping. Our campus is situated in the downtown area and is only a 10-15 minute walk from our main transport hubs, and a 20-minute drive from Glasgow International Airport, making us the Gateway to Europe.

Grant Period
Master's programs in the UK may last up to one year (and in rare circumstances, 2 years). Unless otherwise stated, funding is provided for the first year of the degree - although the grant period is 10 months, tuition waivers cover the entire first year and student visas are not impacted by grant length.
Grants for eligible PhDs will provide funding for the course of the PhD, but grantees will not be eligible for specific Fulbright benefits (including ASPE coverage) following the first year.

The following applicants are ineligible for consideration:
- Applicants who have extensive previous experience in the UK
- Applicants whose proposals are to complete any part of a medical degree, including internships or residencies, or applicants who hold a Ph.D. at the time the grant is to begin
- Applicants who have previously spent time at their selected university will be at a competitive disadvantage
- Applicants who have spent six or more months in the host country in the year prior to the grant are ineligible for consideration

Letter recommended but not required at deadline
Applicants are responsible for arranging their own affiliation and must apply for admission according to the relevant university’s admissions procedures. Applicants are not expected to have a letter of admission/affiliation at time of application, but awards are made conditional upon acceptance by the chosen institution before arrival. Applicants for Ph.D. programs should include a letter of support from their proposed supervisor.
Applicants will complete two applications, the Fulbright application and the university’s application (according to the university’s admissions procedures). Applicants must submit their university applications as early as possible, ideally before January 13, 2025. Applicants who fail to do so may be at a competitive disadvantage. The Fulbright Program does not cover the application fee for the university.
Affiliation Fees/Tuition
Tuition for the first year of study will be waived internally by the host university.

Stipend Amount
This is an estimated amount and is subject to change. The financial terms of the grant will be confirmed in the grant document issued after selection.
The stipend amounts are in line with the UK Research and Innovation’s minimum amounts for studentship stipends and allowance.

Grant Amount
The Fulbright University of Strathclyde Award covers the following:
- Full tuition fee waiver
- 1-year Master’s degree programme or the first year of a PhD (1 award) in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
- 1-year Master’s degree programme, the first year of a PhD, or a PhD for a period of 3 years (1 award) within the Faculty of Engineering
- 1-year Master’s degree programme or a 3-year PhD (1 award) within Strathclyde Business School
- £19,027 living stipend per each year of grant-eligible study
- $1,500 Travel stipend
The living stipend is intended as a contribution towards general maintenance costs towards the first year in the UK.
