Grant Length: 10 months.
The academic year in Honduras varies depending on the institution, but usually begins in early February and ends in mid-December. Most grantees begin in the fall, but the start date is flexible. The last possible start date is March 31, 2026.
Orientation
As a condition of the grant, all grantees to Honduras are required to participate in the Pre-Departure Orientation.
Candidate Profile
Applications from recent graduates, master's degree students, and doctoral candidates are welcome. Applications from all fields of study are accepted.
Candidates should be open to learning new cultures and adjusting to the challenges that may come with doing research in under-resourced communities and institutions, and open to being a cultural ambassador for the United States.
Presenting a strong, well-defined project proposal, demonstrating a solid working relationship with a proposed affiliate, and clearly outlining plans for engagement with the host community are favorable elements in the application.
What is life like for Fulbrighters in the host country?
Fulbrighters typically get very involved and volunteer in their communities. Many enjoy teaching English and participating in cultural events. It is also important that Fulbrighters to Honduras be open-minded and feel comfortable dealing with potential bureaucracy within the host institution.
