Award Profile
The Fulbright U.S. Student Study/Research Awards in Argentina aim to strengthen connections between higher education and research institutions in the United States and Argentina.
These awards offer recipients the opportunity to conduct research projects in collaboration with a variety of institutions in Argentina, including universities, research centers, and community-based organizations. Applicants may design and carry out their projects with any appropriate partner institution in the country.
Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply, including those in the cultural, political, and social sciences, as well as the natural, biological, physical, and chemical sciences, and other STEM fields. Through this experience, Fulbright grantees will develop valuable skills by adapting to diverse research environments shaped by local practices and traditions.
Grant Length
Grant Period
Grant Length: 9 months.
Grantees must arrive in late February or early March 2028.
Orientation
Participation is mandatory.
Late February through mid-March 2028.
Virtual pre-departure activities, including webinars, will be offered by the Commission during fall 2027 to provide information about Argentina, cultural adjustment issues, obtaining visas, health insurance, grant payments, etc.
The grant period then starts with an arrival orientation organized by the Fulbright Commission. Attendance at the orientation programs is required for all grantees.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should have prior research experience and must have completed an undergraduate bachelor’s degree. While enrollment in a master’s or Ph.D. program is preferred, candidates pursuing independent research will also be considered.
Preference will be given to applicants who have existing connections to Argentina or to Argentine research and higher education institutions. Strong intercultural skills, initiative, and adaptability are highly valued.
What is life like for Fulbrighters in the host country?
Applicants are expected to research their host country. Application materials should indicate a clear commitment to the host country community and a description of how you will engage with it.
Argentina is a vast country with a wide array of ecosystems, cities, and cultures. Each city is distinct, and there are notable differences between regions. From the arid landscapes of La Quiaca in Jujuy to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, grantees will encounter environments and conditions that may be very different from those at home.
Argentine culture is unique, with traditions such as drinking mate (of Guaraní origin) and a passion for soccer (fútbol) serving as central elements of daily life and national identity. Every city and town has its own character, reflected in local slang (“lunfardo”), cuisine, and customs. Argentina’s rich cultural tapestry is shaped by its geographic breadth and its history of immigration, which has blended global influences with local traditions to create a vibrant national identity.
Argentine people are known for their warmth and kindness, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. Grantees coming to Argentina can expect to leave with a broader perspective, enhanced cultural adaptability, and a meaningful experience that will shape how they see and engage with the world.
