In addition to teaching English, grantees are encouraged to plan and organize a community outreach project/events/workshop to enhance the impact of their stay and to better integrate into the local host institution and host town.

Throughout the school year, English Teaching Assistants may visit other American grantees and prepare joint lessons and special projects to broaden their experience, exchange best practices, and get familiar with different school environments.

What is life like for Fulbrighters in the host country?

Applicants are expected to research their host country. Application materials should indicate a clear commitment to the host country community and a description of how you will engage with it.

The placement at the host institution is diverse, so personal experiences can vary widely from one grantee to another. The Commission places great emphasis on the careful matching process of each finalist to a host institution, reflecting the grantee's academic background, personal hobbies and passions, plans for extra-curricular engagement, and previous life experience.

To get a better idea about what the experience of our recent English Teaching Assistants looked like, we are sharing a few ETA Testimonies on our YouTube channel, where you may read about past and current ETAs' experiences on our blog.
