Award Profile
The Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (DA) collaborates with Fulbright Austria (the Austrian-American Educational Commission) to offer one grant for a qualified student to enroll in one of the courses that the DA offers for university graduates: its one-year Diploma Programme; the first or second year of its two-year Master of Advanced International Studies (MAIS) Program, or the first year of its two-year Master of Science in Environmental Technology and International Relations (ETIA) Program or the first year of its two-year Master of Science in Digital International Affairs (DIA) Program. Please note that this grant is limited to one academic year for students accepted into the first year of the MAIS Program. Especially qualified students may enroll directly in the second year of the program. (Note: US citizens already enrolled as students at the DA are not eligible for second-year funding.)

Orientation
The Fulbright-Diplomatic Academy Student Award begins with an orientation in Vienna in mid- to late September.
Candidate Profile
Applicants must hold a university degree in any discipline (minimum 180 ECTS or equivalent) and have an excellent command of English.

Foreign Language Proficiency
Candidates for the Diploma Program are expected to have a good knowledge of English and of either German or French with at least basic skills in the respective third language. Instruction in the MAIS/ETIA and DIA programs is in English. Knowledge of German – Intermediate is recommended

It is possible but not necessary for candidates to apply independently for admission to the DA. However, it is advisable to contact the DA’s admission office to ascertain which program is most appropriate for the candidate.
Affiliation Fees/Tuition
Costs for tuition will be covered by Fulbright Austria and the DA. Grantees receive an award to cover the costs of on-site room and board, and grantees can choose on-campus housing or find off-campus accommodations.

Stipend Amount

Costs for tuition, valued at €14,600, will be covered by Fulbright Austria and the DA. Grantees receive a monthly award to cover the costs of room and board on site of €745, and grantees can choose on-campus housing or find off-campus accommodations.

Grantees receive a travel and relocation allowance of €2,000.

Residency Permits
Grantees are required by the terms and conditions of their awards to have appropriate residence permits, and the timely procurement of appropriate residence permits is strictly the responsibility of individual grantees. If you are aware of any reason that you would not be able to obtain a residence permit in Austria (i.e., if you are currently subject to a ban on entering the EU), please reach out to Fulbright Austria prior to applying.
